“It is always fascinating when a visual poet pivots into verse—and Brenza’s sonnets are case in point. These poems are elegiac song, slow burning fourteen lined addresses that hold the reader with their robust and earnest language. But in true Brenza style the visual creeps back in, engendering a dialogue between tradition and sonnets of the possible. But, to begin with, what tradition has been adhered to?
